Salut a tous!

Do you know that impressionists painters in the 19th century, were having dinner together almost every week? Friends from all walks of life would join them. They would be surrounded at the diner table by each other’s paintings on the walls, and all these creativity around them would do one thing: enhance conversations, and sometimes these conversations were quite heated and fun! This is what I do when I am not painting: having dinner with friends and family and enjoying these conversations!

The Art of Conversation

Behind each of my paintings is a story. Think of your own stories when you read mine! Then, share your experiences with friends & family. Transform my art into something personal.

Make it become your conversation.

Biography

Life is basically a huge collection of moments - and sometimes it’s a little confusing how all of those fit together, when they’re all so different. Marion Buricatu had a lot of those moments, and she definitely never expected Marion’s Workshop to be the result (as is often said, funny where life takes you!).

Marion was born in the rural town of La Fleche, and grew up surrounded by the ocher wheat fields and dark green forests that make up the French landscape. She was also raised in a family of both scientists and artisans - from doctors & engineers to seamstresses & gallery owners. Her grandmother used to tell her stories of how her own mother had sewn coats for the French resistance out of parachutes(!) during World War II. So naturally, she started making her own clothing too (who wouldn’t with an inspiration like that?)! Sewing really marked her first big “entry” into the art world, and by the time she graduated from university in Paris, Marion had made most of her wardrobe!

Academically, Marion oriented herself towards science and received a masters in Geophysics from Pierre et Marie Curie University. She recalls with a chuckle that she excelled at anything visual, like cartography and identifying minerals under telescopes (based on color, texture...). After graduating, she started working in the environmental management field, and made professional development courses for engineers and government inspectors.

In 2001, Marion moved to the USA with her husband. She took this as an opportunity to commit to fashion design, but when she visited the fabric stores in Massachusetts, she was a bit dismayed by the lack of fabric compared to Parisian boutiques. So instead, Marion decided to try her hand at something completely new: painting! Over the next 10 years, her methodology and technique improved and she began teaching her own classes in 2011, and also started painting originals. She says that her scientific background helps her considerably, since she uses her observational and analytical skills when she paints - layer by layer, and shape to shape.

Looking back, Marion says it’s incredible how all of those moments came together so well. The colors of the French countryside, her journey as a seamstress, a scientific background, and finally moving to the USA… Everything added up to create a company that fully embodies Marion - from her French roots to her American life.
